Dry and Chapped lips have become a problem that happens any time of the year. From winter to summer, in winter, you know it already. Your lips become dry and flakey. And during the sunny season, it loses its charm due to sun damage. So to know how to avoid all these problems, let’s see what this article has for you.

What are Chapped Lips?

Dry/Chapped Lips

Dry and cracked lips are something we know as Chapped lips. The skin on your lips is different from the rest of your face. It’s much more delicate and sensitive. Your lips don’t have oil glands. As it’s exposed to all the elements and changes of nature, it quickly dries out.

What is The Reason Your Lips Are Getting Dry and Peeling?

Chapped lips are very common among people, and fortunately, it is easier curable. Dry and Chapped lips can occur due to many reasons.

The first and the most common reason are hot or dry weather. Then dry lips may occur due to side effects of some medicines like allergies or thyroid. Vitamin deficiency can make your lips dry and can’t protect itself from weather or pollution. And another important reason is dehydration. It makes your mouth dry.

How to Prevent Dry and Chapped Lips?

There are always solutions to skin issues, but the procedure is complicated. No matter what you do, it will always take time to remove or heal skin problems. Here are some ways you can prevent Dry and Chapped Lips in the first place.

Avoid Sun

It doesn’t matter what reason it is. It can be summer or winter. Always try to protect your lips from sun damage. Your lips are more delicate than your skin. Thus, it is more vulnerable to UV rays and takes out all the nourishment from your lips. So if you can do it, wear a mask or scarf.

Stop licking your lips.

While reading this, I know you are licking your lips, and now you are smiling. It is the most common method we do to moisturize our lips. But ultimately, we miserably fail in it. The saliva may have provided moisture for a minute or two, but like water, it evaporates quickly. And make the lips even drier.

Avoid certain products

Kids, teenagers, and even sometimes adults love to use flavoured lip balm. And if the lip balm has a pleasant fragrance and flavour, there is nothing more to say. It becomes everyone’s favourite product in no time. But you need to understand that the chemicals used in this product are harmful to your delicate lips. And it makes your lips feel dry and pigmented.

Keep your lips hydrated.

Always use a lip balm to keep your lips hydrated. And if you like wearing lipstick, then purchase lipstick with a creamy texture. There are a variety of brands and shades available in the market. Avoid matte lipstick as they soak all the moisture from your lips and won’t let it breathe. Or you can take extra care of your lips after returning home.

Avoid spicy food

We love spicy food, and it makes our taste buds dance. But our lips are sensitive. Spice in food can burn or irritate our lips. And if you have chapped or split lips, then it can seriously harm the delicate skin of your lips. And if you don’t like spicy food, congrats, cause it’s good for your lips and your stomach.

Don’t peel your lip skin.

Unknowingly peeling dry skin of lips has become a habit of many people. You may not notice when you are scratching and peeling the skin of your lips. But by the time you notice it, it’s already too late. You may see blood coming out of your lips, and it’s painful. So, even if your lips are getting dry, stay conscious and don’t scratch it.

Drink a lot of water

Drink enough water to keep your skin healthy. It’s beneficial for your lips and good for your whole body. Drinking 4-5 litres of water keeps our skin hydrated and healthy. If possible, you can use a humidifier during the winter to moisten your room’s air and prevent dry skin.

Reduce smoking

As we know, smoking is not suitable for your health, and it can even cause skin irritation of your lips. Your lips are very soft and sensitive. The tobacco smoke takes out all the nourishment. And make your lips dry and cracky.

Top 5 Methods for Getting Rid of Chapped Lips

If you look over the internet, you will find many remedies and methods to get rid of dry and Chapped Lips. But ultimately, the fact is that you will be confused about what is best for your lips. So here is a list of practical ways to say goodbye to your dry and peeling lips.

Buy a Good Lip Balm

Lip balm is the most straightforward and effortless technique to remove chapped lips. It’s not difficult to find a good lip balm with no chemicals or preservatives. It nourishes your lips for hours and gives you healthy, soft lips.

But before buying a lip balm, always check the ingredients. As we read before, avoid products with flavour, fragrance, and ingredients like menthol camphor. These ingredients can irritate your sensitive lips and won’t give you proper hydration. Buy lip balms that contain natural oil or wax as they create a protective seal to protect your lips. Plus, if it includes SPF, then don’t think twice. Just grab it before anyone else buys it.

Use Coconut oil

They are perfect for your skin. It is filled with fatty acid and anti-inflammatory properties; Coconut oil helps reduce irritation of your lips. And its lauric acid moisturizes your lips and easily seeps into your lips. Coconut oil has no additives, perfect for sensitive and delicate skin. Plus, it creates a nursing barrier to protect your lips from harmful properties and heal your lips from excessive dryness.

You need to take some coconut oil in your palm then apply it to your lips with your index finger. And leave it overnight. You can see the result in 2 days.

Try Exfoliation

Exfoliation is an excellent method of removing dry skin cells from your lips. But you should avoid the usage of face scrub or baking soda on your lips. These are good for your facial skin but a bit harsh for your lips as they are delicate and sensitive. You can use coffee or sugar as a natural Exfoliator. And eat some too.

To use this method, take a small bowl, then you can use 1 teaspoon of coffee or sugar and 1 teaspoon of aloe vera gel or Almond oil. It’s your choice. Then mix the ingredients and apply this on your lips. Gently rub this mixture all over your lips, leave it for 5 minutes and wipe it off with a damp cloth. So what do you think, easy, right?

Rose Petal and Raw Milk

Rose petals or rose petal extracts are rich in vitamin c. It nourishes your lips, blocks sun damage and is perfect for sensitive lips. Apart from these, rose petals lighten your lip Pigmentation and make it soft and pink. Raw milk is rich in protein; it gently exfoliates and removes dead skin cells from your lips and makes it look brighter.

Take a small bowl, let some rose petals soak in raw milk for 2-3 hours, or leave it overnight. Now strain some of the excess milk and mash them with your fingers. Apply the paste on your lips and leave it for around 10-15 minutes, then wash it off with water. So what do you think? Its sounds like an exotic solution. Try this method once a day for 5-7 days, and you can see the result.

Honey and Sugar

Surprisingly, honey is as good for the skin as it is good to eat. It is known for its healing properties and nourishing your lips. So honey relieves the pain and cracks caused by the chapped lips. Honey and sugar work as natural exfoliators to get rid of dry and dead skin cells.

To apply this mixture, take a small bowl to add 1½ teaspoon of honey and 1 teaspoon of sugar. Mix it well; it will look like sticky liquid candy. Then apply the scrub on your lips and gently rub it for 2-3 minutes. Let it absorb the moisture of honey for 10-15 minutes. And resist your urge to lick your lips. After a few minutes, clean it away with a damp cloth or tissue.

Conclusion

There are ways to avoid any skin problems. You are going to have patience. And try these tips and methods, which are more accessible than you think. And bring back the soft, plump lips of yours. Chapped lips are very common, so don’t worry.

After following these tips and methods, your lips won’t get better, so you should consult a doctor. In the end, all I want to say is to take care of yourself and have patience.
