Why You Should Listen to Certified Dermatologists for Skincare Advice

WHY ARE DIY SKIN HACKS HARMFUL? Why You Should Listen to Certified Dermatologists for Skincare Advice!

In today’s modern world, hacks are everywhere. There is a hack for everything somewhere, and the internet is the breeding ground for these fantastic and weird hacks. With new emerging and growing numbers of influencers and beauty gurus, these hacks are increasing, but Why You Should Listen to Certified Dermatologists for Skincare Advice, read full article to know!

The issue with skin hacks is that they are appealing and mesmerizing and intimidating, and harmful to the skin. The hacks may look fun and harmless, but they can invite unusual problems without letting you know and leave you regretting them. The hacks result in more harm than good to the skin that Is the reason Why You Should Listen to Certified Dermatologists for Skincare Advice. The most common skin hacks are – facial scrubs, masks, peel-off masks, serums, and acne treatments.

Another problem with homemade skincare concoctions is that the homemade products, made generally with ingredients from the kitchen, do not have any preservatives, hence being prone to bacteria that can result in breakouts. These homemade skin hacks include some common kitchen ingredients like egg, lemon, cinnamon, baking soda, sugar, walnut, etc. these ingredients may look mild and harmless. Still, they contain harmful inflammatory chemicals and bacteria that can make the sensitive skin of your face and body dry and damage it.

Most DIY skin hacks may look promising, but dermatologists, experts, and specialists are against this fact. Sometimes it is not okay to get wrapped up in these stupid skin hacks and listen to certified people to advise on this matter. The beauty influencers come up with DIY recipes, including almost everything from coconut oil to apple cider vinegar, baking soda to toothpaste, and curd to honey. But sometimes, we need to accept that everything that looks natural is not meant to be in your skincare regime, and everything is not meant to be on your skin.

If you still wish to go for skin hacks, knowing what works for you from a dermatologist expert in this field is better. They will give you the correct information and tell you the proper cure for any of your skin problems. There are many safe ayurvedic formulas for skincare used since ancient times; you can opt for them if you search for natural remedies.

HOW CAN FOLLOWING VIRAL SKIN HACKS BE DANGEROUS?

Social media is a great place to consume content, but it is not the right place to seek skincare information. Social media platforms like Tik Tok, Instagram, Youtube, and Pinterest overflow with different hacks every day.

Everybody has something to say about new hacks, and people are getting trapped in these and experimenting with new things sometimes just for the sake of popularity. But they care less for the sake of other people and more for their popularity and generally forget how it can go viral and hinder the healthy beings of many people than helping and solving their problems.

We confront many hack videos every day while scrolling through social media but never research their accuracy before trying them. We get attracted by the startling results and go for it. While some hacks can be beneficial, others are just silly acts for gaining popularity. The craziest viral hacks are popping cysts, foot peels, derma rolling, toothpaste treatment, colouring eyebrows, face slugging, etc.

HARMFUL SKIN HACKS

Now, it is time to discuss precisely the actual damage that the wide variety of skin hacks do to our skin :

  • Scrubbing Face with Unusual Things– Scrubbing your sensitive skin with sugar or walnut shell powder is not a good idea, as the granules are not even and can be sharp to your skin. It can result in cuts and scabs, leading to infections. It can be painful and irritating to the skin. Some people also use coffee grounds to scrub their face, but similarly, the texture of the coffee granules can be harsh on your skin and irritate it. Instead, you can use a soft cloth to buff away the dead skin gently. Nowadays, specialized sponges are also available for this exact purpose. It will clean your skin without damaging it.
  • Making DIY Masks– Many of us have made DIY masks to get glowing and smooth skin, exactly how we see on our mobile screens. While some ingredients from your kitchen area are suitable for skincare and are safe, others are not suitable for skincare remedies. These can be harmful and damage the skin. Ingredients like lemon, baking soda, aloe vera gel, etc., are generally used in these kinds of masks.

Recently, there has been a new way of making gel masks using a face mask-making machine, but there is no correct data about its benefits or drawbacks. Therefore we cannot clearly say that are they good for your skin or not.

  • Applying Raw Egg Masks– Egg is one of the other popular items in the segment of skin hacks. It is said that using eggs on the skin will improve the skin’s elasticity and make the skin firm. It will also make the skin glow because of its collagen and help with removing the fine lines. But the reason to worry is eggs contain a bacteria called salmonella. This bacteria is known to cause food poisoning, therefore, making raw eggs not adequate for DIY face masks. Also, all the beneficial elements of the egg cannot get absorbed in the deeper layers of the skin. Hence making it unnecessary work for the skin.
  • Acne Treatments- Acne and pimple hacks are all over the internet. Some of the hacks are weird and dangerous. The different tools for acne treatments are toothpaste, hair clips, and even nail clippers. It is highly prohibited to use unsanitized metal objects on the skin to cut or pierce through the skin. Using metal objects like nail clippers and hair clips can spread bacteria resulting in severe infection. Also, using toothpaste is not any different. Teenagers are obsessed with using toothpaste on pimples expecting it to suck out the moisture of the spot and cure it overnight. But sadly, toothpaste only gives a temporary cooling effect to the skin and dries out the skin. Rather than healing acne or pimples, toothpaste can make your skin prone to chemical burns.
  • Exfoliating Skin with Baking Soda-  Baking soda is better for cleaning the floors and bathrooms of your house rather than cleaning your face. Baking soda is a harsh chemical, and it is alkaline. It affects and disrupts the pH level of the skin. Our skin is acidic, and baking soda acts as the skin’s acidic mantle, making the skin prone to infections and breakouts. Baking soda and lemon juice only make it more dangerous and infectious to the skin. There we should stick to using baking soda to clean the household area.
  • Lemon Juice Skin Brightner– there are a lot and a lot of skin hacks that use lemon juice in it. Diluting lemon juice can make it milder on the skin but using lemon juice directly on the skin is not at all recommended. It is claimed that the citric acid in lemon and the vitamin C are suitable for the skin and lemon juice helps in curing hyperpigmentation and dark spots. Whereas vitamin C is not that harmful, the citric acid in lemons is the main damaging element. Instead of healing your skin pigmentation, it will only worsen and make the skin sensitive to sunlight. It can also create risks of acidic burns on the skin.
  • Glue Peel-off Mask– Many hacks advise using glue for making peel-off masks. They show blackheads coming out smoothly like magic, but it works nothing like that in reality. Glues are not designed for this purpose, so they can clog the pores and damage the skin. Also, the formula if the glue is not strong enough to pull out the blackheads. There are harmful chemicals present inside glue that are not meant to be applied to the skin. Therefore, using glue as a peel-off mask or pore strips is not suitable for removing dead skins and blackheads from the skin. Some people also use dental floss to remove blackheads. It can be hazardous as the thread of the dental floss is very sharp and cuts the skin or scrapes the skin, causing redness.
  • Using Deodorant on Skin– Using deodorants on the face in this scorching summer can look pleasing and make it easy to beat the heat. Also, in some skin hacks, deodorants are used as a primer for avoiding oiliness and sweat on the skin after applying makeup. Deodorants are made with harsh chemicals like alcohol and magnesium. It can clog the skin’s pores and create an allergic reaction, and it can also cause rashes and breakouts.

CONCLUSION

In conclusion, we can say that it is not always good to go with the flow. No matter what you see on your mobile screens, it is always a brilliant idea to research these hacks before applying them to your life. And when we talk about skin hacks, it is better to understand that every hack is not meant to work and is beneficial for your skin. Everyone has a different skin type, and additional items work differently on people. Therefore, if one hack has worked for someone, it will not always work for you. Embrace your skin and always take advice from experts.
